A Tower Called Surfer

21.9.26

Finally, Surfers Paradise is getting a building named after the thing it's ostensibly famous for.

Bastion Group has unveiled Surfer, a $180 million, 30-storey tower whose profile - a stack of chevron balconies climbing a narrow shaft - evokes a surfboard, apparently.

The 1,231 sq. metre site is pieced together from three holdings and Bastion will retain a Norfolk Pine on one of the blocks. To dress the place up, Bastion have brought in the big guns: Joe Snell handles the architecture, Jamie Durie the landscaping, while Dane Henry and Milla Coco Brown, have been brought in to consult on the "wellness and lifestyle" spaces, ensuring the building "reflects the rhythm, energy and reality of life lived around the ocean."

Inside are 100 apartments, split between 25 private residences for owner-occupiers - i.e the locals - and 75 short-stay units for blow-ins. Surfer has a checklist of lux amenities, such as an on-site cafe, gym and pool, plus ground-floor retail.

Bastion Group founder Alex Wood describes it as a building for "elevated coastal living" and "authentic surf culture."

Prices start at $995,000.
