A $200m high-rise tower in the heart of Surfers Paradise has been given the green light amid a spree of residential projects being approved.
Bastion Group says it will soon begin construction on its 30-storey Surfer project on the corner of Surfers Paradise Boulevard and Vista St where it will replace an ageing two-storey fibro building.
Designed by firm Studio Snell to resemble a stack of surf board, the complex will feature 25 residential units and 75 designed for short-term stay, as well as a ground-floor retail precinct.
Bastion Group chief executive Alex Wood said construction would begin in the first quarter of 2027, with the company using its own in-house builder after council gave it approval last week.
“Securing approval for Surfer is a significant step forward for the project and reflects the continued confidence in the Gold Coast market,” he said.
“Surfers Paradise remains one of Australia’s most recognisable lifestyle destinations, and we’re seeing sustained demand for well-designed apartments in central locations with strong amenity and connectivity.
“This project responds directly to that demand, delivering a considered, design-led product in a location where new supply remains limited.
“Having an in-house construction arm allows us to maintain quality control, respond efficiently during delivery, and ensure consistency across our projects.”
Prices are expected to stay from $995,000
Bastion bought two neighbouring parcels on Vista St in 2024 and amalgamated them for the tower, which is among a $500m crop of developments the company is rolling out across the city’s central region.
Among them is the $184m Nera tower on Chevron Island.
The 30-storey residential tower is expected to be completed in 2028 and made headlines earlier this year when its penthouse sold off-the-plan for $11.5m, a record for the enclave.
It will also feature three homes on-site, of which was designed by TV landscaper Jamie Durie.
In July, the company also secured the management rights to the 30-storey Surfers Century resort on Enderley Ave.
