Gold Coast, October 2026 —Bastion Group has secured development approval from Gold Coast City Council for its $200 million Surfer project, marking the next phase of the developer’s $500 million expansion across the Gold Coast.
The approval permits the construction of a 30-storey mixed-use tower at 27 Vista Street, Surfers Paradise, comprising 25 residential apartments, 75 short-stay residences, ground-floor retail and a signature restaurant.
The project will be delivered in a tightly held precinct within walking distance of the beachfront, the G:link light rail, Northcliff Surf Club and Surfers Paradise’s retail and entertainment core.
Bastion Group CEO Alex Wood said the approval provided confidence to move forward in a market where well-located sites remain scarce.
“Securing approval for Surfer is a significant step forward for the project and reflects the continued confidence in the Gold Coast market. Surfers Paradise remains one of Australia’s most recognisable lifestyle destinations, and we’re seeing sustained demand for well-designed apartments in central locations with strong amenity and connectivity.
This project responds directly to that demand, delivering a considered, design-led product in a location where new supply remains limited.”
The approval follows Bastion’s continued activity in the local market, including the recent launch of The Residences and its $184 million Nera project on nearby Chevron Island, which recorded a penthouse sale of $11.5 million.
Designed by Studio Snell, Surfer’s 30-storey form draws inspiration from a stack of surfboards, representing a departure from conventional residential tower typologies on the Gold Coast.
The project targets a broad buyer profile including owner-occupiers, investors and younger buyers seeking proximity to lifestyle and transport infrastructure.
Amenities will include an EMF gym, pool, private spa and plunge pool, as well as an owners’ lounge.
Bastion has partnered with Australian surf athletes Dane Henry and Milla Coco Brown to provide creative input on lifestyle considerations, working alongside the design and development teams.
Construction to Commence Q1 2027
Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with Bastion’s in-house construction arm, Bastion Built, appointed to deliver the project.
Mr Wood said the integrated development and construction model continued to underpin the group’s delivery capability.
“Having an in-house construction arm allows us to maintain quality control, respond efficiently during delivery, and ensure consistency across our projects.”
Upon completion, Surfer will be managed by Bastion Living, reinforcing the group’s end-to-end approach across development, construction and asset management.
South East Queensland Pipeline
The approval adds to Bastion’s growing pipeline of projects across South East Queensland, as the group continues to expand its presence in key lifestyle markets.
